In June 1934, Porsche received a contract from Hitler to design a “people’s car” (or Volkswagen), following on from his previous designs such as the 1931 Type 12 car designed for Zündapp. The first two prototypes were completed in 1935.
In 1934, Porsche began work on Adolf Hitler’s “people’s car” for the masses. While working on the project with his son, Ferdinand Anton Ernst Porsche — known as Ferry — he developed the first designs of what became the Volkswagen car, later known as the Beetle.

Volkswagen rolled its last Beetle off the assembly line on July 10th, 2019 at its plant in Puebla, Mexico. This somber yet celebratory occasion was marked with ceremonies (including tunes from a Mariachi band), as that final model was sent off to be immortalized in a museum.Jul 20, 2019
The original Beetle ended production in 2003, with declining demand being cited by Volkswagen as the reason for this. Despite updates and improvements over the years, it was fundamentally an ancient car by the time the last model rolled off the production line in Mexico.

The Beetle comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 174 horsepower. A six-speed automatic transmission comes standard as well.
