Adding to Ranger’s two-wheel-drive capability, the FX2 Package includes an electronic-locking rear differential and off-road-tuned suspension for increased traction and performance off-road. Ford’s off-road cluster screen adds to the FX2 experience inside, where drivers can see pitch, roll and yaw in real time.
FX2 Package
The four-wheel-drive FX4 package sold well, due largely to its street presence — a presence that didn’t require the extra weight, complexity, cost or loss of fuel economy that comes with four-wheel drive. On the 2013 F-150, the FX4 package comes standard with the 400A equipment group.
FX4 is a 4×4 Offroad package, FX2 is a 2wd package.
The fully boxed frame, built of over 95 percent high-strength steel with up to 10 crossmembers, is 24 times stiffer than the previous design.
TERRAIN MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
The system, shifting on the fly, automatically calibrates engine responsiveness, transmission gearing and vehicle control systems to provide optimum traction, driveability and performance.
The FX4 trucks made by Ford have very similar specs to those of the regular 4×4 truck. However, there are some differences. The FX4 comes with an improved suspension, which includes skid plates, stronger Ranchero shocks, and a higher ground clearance, as well as a limited slip rear end.
What comes with the 2021 Ford FX4 package? If you opt for the 2021 Ford F-150 FX$ package, you’ll get skid plates to protect the undercarriage, including the differential, transfer case, and fuel tank. You’ll also get off-roading tuned shocks, hill descent control, and all-terrain tires.

2021 Ford Ranger Engine
Every 2021 Ford Ranger pickup has a turbocharged 2.3-liter 4-cylinder engine developing 270 horsepower. It’s linked to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive (RWD) is the standard arrangement, all-wheel drive (AWD) is optional with any trim.
The XL gives you basic, black-vinly floors while the XLT provides fully-carpeted floors. The seats are the same for these two trim levels. You get four-way, manual seat adjustments and cloth upholstery. The XLT provides for some extra storage space with a flip-up bench and storage area under the rear seats.

Stock FX4’s do sit higher than stock normal F150 4×4’s. It is because of the tires and rancho shocks which were part of FX4 package.
The STX on the Ford F-150 stands for Sports Truck Extreme or Sports Truck Extra. Before 2015, STX referred to the trim, build or style of the vehicle, or what it was built for. After 2017, Ford changed the STX package to strictly an appearance package.
The XLT was Ford speak for “extra luxurious truck”. As a side-bar, the Explorer name also originated as an appearance package on the F-series as well.
The Ranger Raptor will be a smaller version of the familiar F-150 Raptor and targeted at customers who don’t have space for such a large truck. The Ranger Raptor adopts the wide-body look of the F-150 Raptor sporting fender flares used to house a larger more aggressive wheel and tire package.

Available XL and XLT packages include chrome appearance, FX2 Off-Road and FX4 Off-Road. The XL is available in a sporty STX package. XLT models are offered in a Sport package or a black appearance package.
In the past, some believed the FX4 to ride a little stiffer but I’ve never personally felt a difference. If you’re not really going off-road, the base 4×4 with winter tires should suffice for snowy conditions. And the rear locker is a stand alone option if you think you need it.
on the new trucks…it’s basically the interior trim. FX4 and Lariat’s basically are the same truck, with different interiors. If you want luxury, go with the lariat. If you want a bit “sportier” interior, do the FX4.
The best part of it all is, you can switch 4WD modes between 2H and 4H and while driving without any risks of speeds below 60mph/100km/h. You could drive it in 2H with only the rear wheels propelling the vehicle forward or when traction gets a bit “iffy” you just pop it into 4H – no problem at all.
Regardless of whether you are driving the XL or a nicer Platinum or Limited model, you should find that you can reach speeds of 55-60 or so safely in for f150 4 wheel drive high.
2H is ideal for normal, everyday driving. Use 2H for dry, flat, paved roads. … 4H is your go-to setting for driving at normal speeds (30 to 50 MPH), but with additional traction. Use this setting when driving on hard-packed sand, ice or snow covered roads, and dirt roads.
