2018 Cadillac CTS-V review: Our expert’s take
What it is: The CTS is Cadillac’s mid-size luxury sedan and is offered with rear- or all-wheel drive. Three engines are offered: a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, a 3.6-liter V-6 and, on the V-Sport model, a twin-turbo 3.6-liter V-6.
Fuel with an octane rating of 91 or more is usually considered premium fuel. The vehicles that require premium fuel in the Cadillac line up are the Cadillac SRX 2.8L V-6, the Cadillac CTS 6.2L V-8, all models of the Cadillac Escalade and all models of the Cadillac DTS.
The all-new 2021 Cadillac Escalade is the most luxurious and possibly most handsome one yet, with concept-car styling cues and a tech-heavy cabin.
But don’t let its sleek design fool you, the CT6 is actually the largest luxury sedan Cadillac has to offer. Called “The Most Advanced and Luxurious Cadillac Ever” by Automobile Magazine, the Cadillac CT6 was named Luxury Car of the Year by the Digital Trends Car Awards.
Both the CTS-V and ATS-V now share the same chassis, so it makes sense that they have a similar feel. But where the CTS goes about its business with brawn and brute force; the ATS has more of nimble precision to it, slicing through corners more than bludgeoning them.
What is this? In terms of velocity, despite the STS’s reputation as the generally faster sedan, according to specifications on the Cadillac website, the CTS hits a maximum speed of 7200 rpm, harnessing six-speed capabilities; while the STS 2006 approaches 6700 rpm, with only five accessible speeds.
Acceleration and Power
According to Cadillac, the XLR has a top speed of 155 mph and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds.
Although the high-end CTS V-Sport doesn’t offer Cadillac AWD, for obvious reasons, you will still have access to all-wheel drive on Base, Luxury, and Premium CTS configurations.
The 2019 CTS has a below-average predicted reliability rating of 2.5 out of five.
