The code is located on a card that comes with the original purchase of the vehicle, which we don’t have. A person can call the dealership with the serial number of the radio and Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of the vehicle and ask for the radio code.
The best place to locate a radio code is in the owner’s manual of your car. In most cases, the owner’s manual will be located in your glove box and will include general automotive service and maintenance tips, along with instructions on how to operate each system on the vehicle.
From any landline or cell phone, call the toll-free GM Radio hotline at 1(800) 537-5140. Step 2: Enter the code. When it requests a code, enter “106010” on the keypad, followed by the pound (#) sign. Step 3: Enter the radio serial number.
Turn the key to unlock your car door, but don’t release it. Hold the key in this position for 20 to 30 seconds. This lets the system know you have the correct key, and it can allow you to bypass the alarm system. Some vehicles recognize the key simply by turning the key back and forth in the door lock key cylinder.

Every time the battery is disconnected or becomes completely dead the radio will ask for the code. In most cases, you can just press and hold the power button for 2 seconds and the radio will automatically reset and start working properly without entering the code.
The most common reason for a car radio to stop working after the battery has gone completely dead is that the radio has an anti-theft “feature” that kicks in whenever battery power is removed. When that happens, all you have to do is enter the right car radio code, and you’re back in business.
Keep those numbers handy
A car radio code is a short string of numbers associated with a security feature found in some head units. Its purpose is to prevent theft by rendering a stolen head unit useless when it’s disconnected from the battery. However, this feature also kicks in if your battery dies.
To unlock radio you will need access to a GM scan tool. The radio must be in LOC mode NOT in INOP mode. Turn the ignition ON (The radio displays LOC). Press and hold presets buttons 2 & 3 or 1 & 4 for approximately 10 seconds.

Turn the ignition key to the “ON” position, without turning the engine over. Hold the preset buttons “2” and “3” for 10 seconds. The radio will display a three-digit code.
If the security or anti-theft light is flashing when you attempt to start your car, and the engine does not crank or does not start, you have an anti-theft problem. The system may not be recognizing your key or keyless entry signal, or there may be a fault in the anti-theft module, keyless entry system or wiring.
