Hello – removal of the harmonic balancer bolt is counter-clockwise. Be sure to use a flywheel block or pin to prevent counter-clockwise engine rotation, which could cause engine damage.
The harmonic damper puller is designed to remove the harmonic balancer from the engine crankshaft. This crankshaft pulley tool is capable of removing harmonic balancer damper pulleys in tight engine compartments without removing the radiator.
Is a harmonic balancer bolt reverse thread? Yes, that bolt is normal thread, counterclockwise loosens it. The engine turns the opposite direction as the bolt removal direction to gaurantee that it won’t back out.
Place your socket on the crankshaft pulley bolt and wedge the end of your ratchet or breaker bar onto the ground. Make sure when the pulley starts to turn, the breaker bar is positioned to push the bolt counterclockwise to loosen it.

The harmonic balancer is an assembly of parts that absorbs and dampens engine vibrations in order to keep the engine and the belts attached to it running smoothly. It is attached to the end of the crankshaft, and is bolted to the crankshaft pulley to run the accessory belt drive.
Most DIYers can replace a harmonic balancer themselves if they follow the rigth Harmonic balancer replacement procedurehave the right tools. Replacing a harmonic balancer is a three-step process. The harmonic balancer is an engine component found on virtually all rotating internal combustion engines and plays an important role in protecting the engine from dangerous harmonic vibrations and potential damage.
Registered. If you are cranking it while it’s in the car you need to use the breaker bar with short extension and 15/16″ socket.
