The 3800 Series III engine, found in the Grand Prix, offered 200 horsepower for the sporty sedan base model. The supercharged 3800 Series III, found in the Grand Prix GT or GTP (depending on model year), unleashed 260 horsepower.

L67 SI Supercharged
The M62 supercharger was manufactured by Eaton, for the GM 3800 SI engine. HP was rated at 205 for 1991-1993 engines (Gen2 supercharger) with a 2.55-inch (65 mm) pulley, and 225 for 1994-1995 engines(Gen3 Supercharger).
Power is up to 240 hp (180 kW) and 280 lb·ft (380 N·m) of torque. Final drive ratios are reduced in most applications, for better fuel economy and more use of the engine’s torque in the low range. The engine was built in Flint, Michigan.

1 Answer. They are both series II’s, the engines are the same. GM updated the EFI on most vehicles between ’99-’00. You will need to swap all six injectors and you may need to swap some sensors.

A standard VVT 3.9 is a great engine. Can’t go wrong with any of the gen 3 3800 engine family. If you can find one with the 3.8 i would by it. We have not seen any real issues in our shop with 3.9,but the 3.8 was bullet proof.
