What gas mileage does a 460 get? 14.3 mpg on the highway, 10-12 in town, anywhere from 7-12mpg while towing depending on load.
The average number of miles a Ford Super Duty can last is 200,000 miles. However, if you take care of your truck, you can extend its service life to 600,000 miles. In fact, some Super Duty trucks with 800,000 miles are still on the road. So, Ford Super Duty’s are exceptionally durable.
In a test done by Ford Authority, the F-250 Super Duty got as little as 14.6mpg in typical city traffic, and as much as 15.5mpg driving on the highway.

With no exhaust brake, the gas engine couldn’t control the downhill speed as well as a modern diesel does. For the towing run, I used 7.004 gallons of gas and had a calculated fuel economy of 8.4 mpg. The computer read 8.2 mpg.
Overall, Ford’s 7.5L 460 engine is extremely reliable.
As is with any 25+ year old engine the majority of the problems associated with it today are from old age and high mileage. The block and major engine components themselves can easily withstand in excess of 300,000 miles.
Adding the ported heads, COMP Cam and Weiand intake to the stock 460 increased the power output by over 110 hp at 5,500 rpm. In stock trim, the 460 produced 349 hp and 492 lb-ft of torque. After the upgrades, the peak numbers jumped to 437 hp and 507 lb-ft of torque.
After years of production, the 6.7L Power Stroke has proven it can storm past the 200,000-mile mark with few repairs. Provided you adhere to Ford’s recommended service intervals, there is no reason this engine won’t see 300,000 or even 400,000 miles.
Ram claims the Cummins 6.7 engine to be good for 350,000 miles. The mileage is guaranteed if the scheduled services has been carried out timeously and no performance modifications have been done to the engine.
Diesel engines are still more efficient than gas engines, but less so for those who are mostly engaged in city driving. Diesel cars also have more torque, which results in better fuel economy along with more impressive acceleration. … For most U.S. consumers, diesel fuel and gas fuel cost about the same.
The Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra 3500, Ford F-350, and Ram 3500 are known as “one ton” pickups. Similar schemes exist for vans and SUVs (e.g. a 1-ton Dodge Van or a 1⁄2-ton GMC Suburban), medium duty trucks (e.g. the 1 1⁄2-ton Ford F-450) and some military vehicles, like the ubiquitous deuce-and-a-half.
450 is a much heavier duty truck than a 350 but it has a lower cargo capacity than a 350 because they have the same GVWR. Since they have the same 14000 GVWR but the 450 is heavier it gets a lower cargo capacity.

The F-450 weight varies depending on your chosen configuration. F-450 Super Duty trucks can weigh between 7,712 pounds and 8,587 pounds unladen. Curb weight for F-450 Chassis Cab models ranges from 6,956 pounds to 8,222 pounds.
The 2003-2007 Ford Super Duty 6.0L may be the worst diesel truck of all time. The 6.0L Powerstroke is infamous. The engine is so bad that Ford and Powerstroke parent company Navistar were engaged in a serious legal battle.
General Information. The Ford 460-cubic-inch, V8 engine has a cylinder bore of 4.36 inches and a crankshaft stroke of 3.85 inches. The output for 460 engines built before 1972 is 365 horsepower at 4,600 rpm and 485 pound-feet of torque at 2,800 rpm.
The 6.7-Liter Power Stroke Turbodiesel V8 is a Ford truck engine most reliable.
the 460 won’t last as long as a 4.0 that much is true. However a 460 can last past 125k. Just make sure to keep it tuned regurally and use good oil. I’ve seen 454’s with over 150k still going strong.
They are not all the same … some are externally balanced, (after 1978), and some are internally balanced, (earlier engines than 1978). There are other differences inside however, they can be interchanged if you keep the flywheel/flexplate with their respective engines.
Yes, it does. An EGR delete can be beneficial in many ways. However, one of the major ways it is great for your vehicle is that it improves the fuel economy, increases horsepower, and gives you better mileage. These are all benefits that arise from getting optimized engine performance.
150,000 miles is very high. Engine wise diesels generally last longer than petrols. I might also guess that older diesel types, those without high compression or turbos fitted might last the longest of all.
As for what’s considered high mileage for specific diesel engines? According to Prosource Diesel, anything over 350,000-miles is considered high mileage for a used diesel pickup with a Cummins or Duramax engine under its hood. Anything over 350,000-miles is also regarded as high mileage for a Powerstroke diesel engine.
